Kambo

The secretion of the Amazonian giant monkey frog — a powerful purge that clears the body on every level.

Kambo is the waxy secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, a large tree frog native to the northwestern Amazon. Used for centuries by indigenous hunters as a "vaccine" to increase strength, sharpen the senses, and clear "panema" — the Amazonian concept of bad luck or heavy energy — kambo has gained international attention for its powerful physical and energetic effects.

A kambo session involves small points being burned into the surface of the skin, through which the secretion is applied. Within minutes, an intense purge response begins — the body rapidly eliminates toxins and old stagnant energy. While the process is physically intense and brief (typically 20–45 minutes), most people describe feeling unusually clear, light, and energized afterward.

Research has identified numerous bioactive peptides in kambo with potential applications for immune support, pain reduction, and antibiotic properties. Beyond the physical, many people find kambo deeply clearing on emotional and energetic levels — releasing patterns that have been stuck for years.

Kambo is a significant purge and is not appropriate for all health conditions. Our certified facilitator conducts a thorough health screening before every session.

Lineage & Tradition

Kambo use is documented among numerous Amazonian peoples including the Matsés (Mayoruna), Katukina, and Yawanapi. The medicine was introduced to the Western world largely through the anthropological work of Katharine Milton and later popularized by Paolo Barbieri. Our facilitator is certified through the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP).

Preparation

Do not eat for a minimum of 8 hours before your kambo session. You will be asked to drink 1–2 liters of water immediately before the medicine is applied to support the purge. Kambo is contraindicated with certain heart conditions, mental health conditions, pregnancy, and several medications. Our full contraindications list is provided during the intake process. Kambo is typically offered as a standalone session or within a retreat.
