In the Amazonian healing traditions, the dieta — also written "dieta" — is the traditional practice through which healers build relationship with the spirit of a plant teacher. Under the guidance of a maestro, the healer enters a period of isolation, strict dietary and behavioral restrictions, and sustained silent communion with a specific plant — a master plant like ayahuasca, bobinsana, chiric sanango, or others.
At Mariri, we offer structured plant dietas for those called to this deepest level of work. A typical dieta at Mariri lasts 7–14 days in a dedicated tambo (isolated jungle hut) on the property. The dietary restrictions are strict: no salt, no sugar, no pork, no alcohol, no sex, minimal social interaction. Simple foods — typically rice, plantain, and the plant itself, taken as a brew or bath.
The purpose is not asceticism for its own sake. The restrictions create a field of purity and sensitivity in which the relationship with the plant can develop. Many healers describe dieta as the most important thing they have ever done — a period in which the plant communicates directly, teaches through dreams and visions, and plants seeds of understanding that bear fruit for the rest of one's life.
Dieta is not for everyone, and it is not entered lightly. Our team conducts a thorough intake process to assess readiness and determine the appropriate plant for each individual's healing intention. The dieta is overseen by an experienced maestro throughout its duration.
